Thanks! No filter, just honest-to-goodness pixie dust!
Actually, I took several different exposures to experiment because I wanted to catch the effect of the shimmering water, but I didn’t even hope that it would come out with pointed stars. Anyway, this was the best exposure for the stars but as you can see, the shadows are pretty plugged. I used a tiny bit of highlight recovery in Lightroom. The nice color came from a preset called Raw Color 4 from Patrick Lavoie which I got at Inside Lightroom. It’s in his set called Color Effects.
I came here from your link at Mike Palmers blog. Good luck with the new site, I like the theme you have used – it looks cool. Look forward to seeing lots of your photography!
This reminds me of the first time we took our grandson to the river. The sun was shining just right on the water and he exclaimed “Granny Sue! Look at the glitter on the water!”
The answer to the question you posted on my blog is yes, that’s me! I made the connection afterwards too..!
I stop by Elements Village very occasionally to see what’s going on, in fact I logged in a couple of days ago. I don’t use PSE at all now, my workflow is totally based around Lightroom, plus the standalone version of Dynamic Photo for any HDR work. My subscription to the Elements site has expired, but I am signed up to NAPP instead. Time has been the main things that kept me away though. If you read by blog then you’ll know I’m coming back after a heavy 4 month lay off from all things photography and blogging.
Hey Julie – That must have been a pleasant surprise when you processed!! the sparkles are perfect – Good to see you and Mr. Holley connected! I am a big Fan of Mike’s work!!

Wonderful. Did you use a filter to get the sparkles? If not, how did you capture this without the highlights burning out?
The sparkles are superb, offset by the muted blue tones of the water and the hard rocks.
