Standing Out

September 12, 2008

Taken on a bright cloudless day with the sun quite high in the sky. The sunflower is tall so I was looking up at it. I positioned myself so that the sun was directly behind the head of the sunflower and exposed for the flower, resulting in the translucent petals and an almost entirely blown sky. The only post-processing was adding a white vignette to whiten a tiny bit of blue sky that was left in the corners.

I love what your doing in your flower shots. Very nice quality to them. What I’m trying to say is ”Pro Level ”!! The desaturated sunflower from a few days ago was magnificent. Have a nice weekend. I’m getting together with Mike Palmer and Andy from Visual Realia at Andy’s Gettysburg photowalk.

I agree with Linda in her comments. The backlighting is so beautiful in this image, creating the wonderful translucent feel to the petals. Wonderful use of light.

Julie – this is marvelous! Everyone always scoffs at blown out skies and this one provided a fantastic back drop for this sunflower. Outstanding!!!

    Julie,

How cool! That’s exactly what I did with my sunflower picture. Nice angle and a perfect exposure.
