In my hometown, the flags of veterans are gathered by the VFW and American Legion and flown on Memorial Day in the cemetery. My father began that tradition many years ago, in honor of the veterans. What started with just raising a hand full of flags has grown to a massive undertaking; raising and lowering the hundreds of flag poles and flags. It makes for a beautiful, and touching, sight.
What a great image to honor Veterans Day Julie. I have my Dad’s flag also. Its serves as a good reminder of the kind of man he was, and the kind of men he would befriend.

Thank you, Sue. Your father must be very proud to have started what must be a very poignant flag ceremony. Does he continue to attend?

Great photo and very interesting to read about traditions different to those we have in the UK.

Great photo in honor of the day. It’s very effective – especially since most know what the folded flag represents. Great image!
